Water For People, in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Environment (Albert Water Management Zone – AWMZ) and Join For Water, proudly launched a new project funded by Conrad N. Hilton Foundation. This project focusing on Implementation of watershed management and nature-based conservation activities in the Mpanga Catchment will cover five districts including Ibanda, Kabarole, Kamwenge, Kitagwenda, and Kyenjojo.

The project’s goal is to contribute to the implementation of the Mpanga Catchment Management Plan, with focus on strengthening the capacity of the AWMZ and Catchment Management Organizations (CMOs).

Over the next three years, this USD 1.395 million project will contribute to:

  • Restoration of degraded landscapes through afforestation on private and public land.
  • Restoration of wetland systems and demarcation of their buffer zones.
  • Soil and water conservation.
  • Establishment of a mini weather station and a hydro-monitoring station at Mpanga catchment outlet.
  • Capacity building of the Mpanga Catchment Management Organizations (CMO).

As part of this project, Water For People Uganda will focus on improving the technical capacity of stakeholders in the Albert Water Management Zone to scale up best practices within these five districts through capacity building, information sharing, learning and knowledge management.
