In a daring manoeuvre to tackle the pressing issue of climate change, Fridays for Future Uganda hosted a 2-day “Strengthening Youth Climate CSOs Workshop” in Kampala. The workshop brought together various youth-led organizations engaged in climate advocacy and activism, with the aim of fostering collaboration and building a stronger, more resilient network to deliver impactful climate campaigns and solutions.
As a highly vulnerable and least prepared nation, Uganda faces significant challenges in responding to the impacts of this global crisis. However, Fridays for Future Uganda, part of the global Fridays for Future movement, is leading the charge for climate justice in the country.
During the workshop, participating organizations had the opportunity to share their work, discuss the challenges they face, and explore ways to collaborate more effectively. The key outcome of the workshop was the establishment of a youth-led advocacy network, a coalition of organizations with from different regions, diverse expertise, skills and resources, united in a mission to strengthen their implementation capacity and drive impactful climate action.

The newly formed network will focus on several key areas, including advocacy and policy engagement, fundraising, capacity building, sharing of expertise, community mobilization among others. Member organizations will also get the necessary support and tools they need to overcome the obstacles they face.
Youth have a crucial role to play in addressing the climate crisis, therefore this workshop has been a game-changer, inspiring climate advocates to work collaboratively and leverage collective strengths to drive the change they wish to see.
The Strengthening Youth Climate CSOs Workshop marks a significant milestone in Uganda’s climate movement. Through empowering youth-led organizations and fostering a strong, united network, Fridays for Future Uganda is positioning the country’s young people at the forefront of the fight against the climate crisis. As the world grapples with the urgent need for action, this initiative serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating the power of youth leadership and collective action.
