The Africa Fertilizer and Soil Health Summit 2024, with the theme “Listen to the Land,” was held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) in Nairobi, Kenya. Leaders and stakeholders in the agricultural sector across Africa gathered for this three-day event.
On the final day of the summit, seven African presidents and heads of state were present. They endorsed the Nairobi Declaration on Fertilizer and Soil Health and a 10-year Action Plan for Fertilizer and Soil Health. The focus was not only on increasing fertilizer usage but also on its judicious use and the restoration of degraded land.
During the summit, H.E. Dr. William Ruto, the President of Kenya, emphasized the potential for agricultural growth in Africa. He highlighted the importance of sustainable agricultural practices and the role of innovation in boosting productivity. Dr. Ruto expressed confidence in ushering in a new era of agricultural productivity that would be both sustainable and profitable for farmers.
Key themes that emerged from the summit included the significance of sustainable practices, the role of innovation, and the need for collaborative efforts to address food security challenges, climate change, and soil degradation. The summit provided a platform for meaningful conversations and partnerships to tackle these pressing issues and pave the way for a prosperous agricultural future in Africa.
