The buzz and excitement were palpable as the Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) 2024 kicked off at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo. This annual event, a beacon for responsible tourism, has once again brought together government officials, industry leaders, eco-conscious travelers, entrepreneurs, passionate stakeholders, and the entire private sector to showcase Uganda’s unparalleled natural wonders.
Representing President Yoweri Museveni, Vice President Jessica Alupo officially launched POATE 2024, highlighting the government’s unwavering commitment to positioning the tourism sector as a key driver of economic growth and sustainable development. “Uganda’s natural beauty and diverse ecosystems hold immense potential,” she remarked, and we are dedicated to harnessing this potential through innovative, eco-friendly initiatives.
VP Alupo emphasized the government’s focus on “Responsible Tourism” – a theme that permeates every aspect of this year’s expo. She further expressed her excitement to welcome visitors from near and far to experience Uganda’s captivating landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and conservation efforts.
Lily Ajarova, CEO of the Uganda Tourism Board, reiterated that the expo provides a valuable platform for Uganda to connect with like-minded individuals, explore new partnerships, and highlight the transformative impact of responsible tourism. “We are also proud to showcase Uganda’s commitment to preserving our natural resources and empowering local communities,” she added.
With a focus on conservation, investment opportunities, and immersive experiences, POATE 2024 promises to be a game-changer in the world of sustainable travel. Attendees are immersed in captivating virtual tours, interactive workshops, spotlight keynote presentations, networking opportunities, exhibitions, and exclusive insights into Uganda’s potential as a premier sustainable tourism destination.
Day one of POATE 2024 was marked by insightful seminars and panel discussions featuring top industry experts. The exhibition hall equally buzzed with activity as over 200 exhibitors showcased their sustainable tourism offerings, attracting the attention of more than 5,000 trade visitors and consumers.
As the curtain rises on this three-day celebration of responsible travel, the stage is set for Uganda to solidify its position as a premier sustainable tourism destination, captivating the hearts and minds of visitors from around the globe.
